Customers can be segmented according to their profiles, based on a number of variables including the amount of debt owed, the number of times they have been in arrears, the length of time as a customer or the age of the debt. Once segmented, customers can be assigned to collection processes or ‘routes’ that are designed to require manual intervention only when absolutely necessary.
This type of process allows the collectors to operate more effectively by only pursuing those accounts that need immediate attention and pose a high level of financial risk. Many accounts will ‘self-cure’ and it is important, from both a customer service and collection efficiency perspective, to discriminate between these types of debtors and those who represent a more significant problem.
